Sound Sort- A Pre-K lesson based on the book Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?  by Dr. Seuss.  The students listed to indvidual recorded sounds and held up the card that made that sound (for example, if they hear buzz they would hold up the picture of a bee).  Then they listed to sounds in a series and ordered their picture cards.  This lesson helps build phonological awareness.

These are two language arts lessons that I used in the second grade classroom during Read Across America week this year (2012).  For both lessons, the students did a readers theatre.  For the Cat in the Hat, the students made a house card and inside they wrote two rhyming lines about what they do on a rainy day.  For Green Eggs and Ham, the students thought about foods that are green and then sorted those foods into groups.
